As a Perth web designer, I always want to give my customers the best chance for traffic and rankings of their site.
I am often asked whether it matters if your website is hosted here or overseas such as the US. I explained to a client that I moved a website from a US hosting company to our Australian Dedicated server and without doing anything else the ranking for one keyword moved 2 pages on the search results.

The other important factor is the speed of the website load. If you host with an overseas company then you can expect that the time from your computer to the server and back will be about 300 ms as opposed to an Australian server with 60-80 ms. thats about 3 times quicker.

Google takes into account the bounce rate on a website. if your website is slow to load due to where it is hosted and your visitors leave (bounce) and that affects your ranking are you saving money.
