Web Design is a multi-faceted approach where design is not the only consideration. The purpose of a website can be argued many ways but I see that the purpose of a website is to attract visitors, engage vistors, convert visitors to Prospects and then to ultimately convert them to customers.
Google is changing the way search results are being fed and many won’t be very happy about it. Google has been watching thousands of companies get rich from search results whilst all the while only receiving income from paid advertisers in their Adwords program. 95% visitors DON"T click on ads. They look at the search results on the left hand side of the page. If you are relying on Adwords alone then you are turning your back on 95% of the possible traffic. This is why we specialise in SEO for clients as that is where the money is.
Anyway Google has already got rid of the Map Mess at the top of the page. It will be replaced with a normal listing with a link to a map. That link will display the first photo that you load into your local Google map. For most companies that means a logo image. The listings with these colourful logos will definitely get more clicks. They also will send vistors to your Google map page and not your website. Those who have ugly looking Google maps will not get much more business.
We are creating some branded graphics for clients to make sure that their local map is appealing.
Here is a little promo about Google mobile search and the web design world that awaits.
I am often asked what a blog is in relation to web design. It is probably the older equivalent of making a diary entry except that it has many more functions. A blog is open to the public whereas a normal diary is private. Blogs allow and encourage comments whereas normal diaries are kept to yourself. The other important feature is that people can subscribe to your blog. This means that whenever you make an entry, people can be notified immediately that there is a post.
