Tao Cafe

Design | Development

The Tao symbol is more commonly recognized as the yin and yang symbol. The word Tao translates as “path” or “way” (of life).

At Tao Café their aim is to bring you a relaxed, modern and casual atmosphere where you can catch up with your friends to enjoy a variety of foods, with the freshest ingredients from three different nations. At Tao you can watch fresh sushi being prepared and placed on a sushi train. You can choose from a wide selection of plates for as little as $2.50 per plate. Tao’s sushi chef is constantly updating and putting new items on the train such as Oysters With Chilli and Cod Roe or Teriyaki Scallops.

If this is not enough for you, you can choose from their a la carte menu. There is a vast selection of all time favourite dishes of each region, such as Cashew Chicken and Pad Thai from Thailand, Pho Tai (half raw beef noodles) and Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodles) from Vietnam , not to mention Teriyaki Chicken (bento boxes available) and Tempura from Japan. Delicious.

Tao Cafe Display Mock Up

Taoist propriety and ethics emphasise compassion, moderation and humility whilst Taoist thought generally focuses on nature. With this in mind, we wanted to create a truly authentic design with a modern twist and emphasise the beautiful complexity, yet simple style of food. Taking inspiration from the ‘Taoist’ we looked towards traditional styles of Japanese influence; Koh fish, Tsubaki & Sakura (Cherry Blossom) flowers and it’s rich history of anime art. Bringing in elements of nature into the design and restyling items to suit Tao Cafe’s ethos, we were able to create a brand with real traditional roots, and a modern reflection of the fusion cuisine being served.
